London Grammar - Baby it's you

ENTERTAINMENT

London Grammar’s music video, Baby It’s You, “comes from the heart”, explains director Oriol Puig, “It's always a pleasure to be asked to work on a music video, but it's tenfold when you are a fan. I instantly connected with all London Grammar, from the cinematic mood to the expansiveness in Hannah´s voice.
And with Baby It's You, a world of inward projection, rebirth, symbolism and introspection with a slight apocalyptic vibe was definitely the initial feel as we approached the project. After our conversations with the band, we got a good sense that this song is about that inner, super intimate journey to the core of love".

Featuring lead singer Hannah Reid’s persona as she drifts underwater, the story unfolds inter-cutting as an elusive Panther is shown trapped within a majestic forest and challenged as mystical Hands pull upon threads of life.

Oriol Puig: “The idea of the panther came as a representation of that mood, the slightly dark undertone we were after. A panther in some cultures is a portal to other dimensions; our apocalyptic image. She is wandering around an enchanted forest, this forest represents our subconscious, a place that, although dark, is full of life lurking around its corners. These lights move and define the space, they are the friendly entities in the dark, they guide us to discover the inhabitants of our subconscious.”

The scenes' technical work itself was deeply complex, we wanted it to remain pensive and tied with references found in reality. Although the images are dark and haunting at times, Puig’s creative mindset was focused on the spiritual tone and the resonance permeating throughout the song.

Made during the corona lockdown this entwined story reaches beautiful and mysterious levels of observations. Set between live underwater footage, recorded drone shots and a mix of CGI animation and live action woods, the cinematic craft draws upon a most unique blend of aesthetic and unnatural phenomena.

On the production side, about half of the scenes are 3d generated with a night shoot right in the middle of the Covid in collaboration with @ocellnegrefarm a permaculture farm in Catalonia. An intense experience, they allowed us to shoot overnight on their property and to place rigs of moving lights and smoke with a reduced crew.

From all of us at Trizz, the journey to create this piece has been a fantastic collaboration with the band and label and the chance to illustrate London Grammar’s amazing soundscapes was a real blessing.
